The Process
Step 1:
Consultation The portrait session usually begins with a consultation, either in person or via phone or email. During the consultation, you and the photographer discuss your vision for the portrait session. This includes the purpose of the portraits (e.g., professional headshots, family portraits, engagement portraits, etc.), the style of portraits you want, and any specific requests or requirements you may have. You may also discuss location options, wardrobe suggestions, and props or accessories you would like to incorporate into the session.
Step 2:
Hair and Makeup Once you have decided on the date and time of the portrait session, you may choose to have professional hair and makeup done to ensure you look your best for the portraits. This step is optional, but many people opt for it to enhance their appearance and boost their confidence during the session. You may choose to have your hair and makeup done by a professional stylist, or you may do it yourself if you prefer.
Step 3:
The Personalized Portrait Session On the day of the portrait session, you will arrive at the agreed-upon location, whether it's a studio, outdoor location, or your own home. The photographer will set up the lighting and background, if applicable, and guide you through the session. During the session, the photographer will capture a variety of poses and expressions to create a diverse selection of images for you to choose from. The session may last for an hour or more, depending on the type of portraits and the number of outfit changes or locations involved.
Step 4:
The Sales Session After the portrait session, you will typically schedule a separate sales session, where you will review and choose the images you want to purchase. The sales session may take place in person at the photographer's studio or online via a password-protected gallery. During the sales session, the photographer will present you with a selection of edited images from the session for you to choose from. You will have the opportunity to view and compare the images, and the photographer may provide guidance on selecting the best images based on your preferences and intended use for the portraits. You may also have the option to purchase additional prints, albums, or digital files, depending on the photographer's offerings and pricing.
Step 5:
Delivery of Images Once you have made your selections and completed the purchase, the photographer will typically provide you with the chosen images in the format agreed upon during the consultation or sales session. This may include digital files, prints, or other products. The delivery timeline may vary depending on the photographer's workflow and production schedule.
